Calling all LUG members and FOSS Activists. This is to (inform) remind you all of the Software Freedom Day (only one day, sato), slated to take place on the 16th of September 2006, at the UICT and EACOSS Nakawa Headquaters. I hope that the response in terms of attendance and participation will be much higher than that at the previous function (software weekend). There will be a good number of activities for all in attendance; not least of which will be the quiz. (come test and show case U'r skills). We would all like to put faces to the names. The FOSS world is built on collaboration by skilled and interested well wishers. This leads me to believe that the best way to improve the LUG and increase awareness and members would be to partake the deveolpment of a project or two for which memebers can provide in put. I have just completed my BSC. Comp. Science in which I implemented a the BankOS (a custom-made customer bank access system) for my final project, which I will show case on the 16th. This experience has provided a new Idea. Can't we the LUG members start the EANIX project, pronounced "yanix". Imagine a custom-made Linux distro meant for Uganda and East Africa as a whole, like the Skolelinux and Edubuntu projects. It would include local language desktops like swahilli or luganda to start with. A collegue once complied a swahili-based enlightenment desktop. A prototype of the EANIX will be shown on the 16th, so be there to learn and contribute. All interested parties can contact me with suppliments before Friday the 15th. FRANCIS. PS: I'd like to suggest the implementation of a kind of CVS or Content Management System hosted under the www.linux.or.ug. This would allow for the co-ordination and improvement of member projects, from within Uganda. _______________________________________________ LUG mailing list [email protected] http://kym.net/mailman/listinfo/lug %LUG is generously hosted by INFOCOM http://www.infocom.co.ug/ The above comments and data are owned by whoever posted them (including attachments if any).
