This technique has been known for a while actually (because chaps
quickly figured out that the phone lock was based on the AT&T IMSI
prefix checking; the IMSI is stored in the SIM). In fact the
interesting part here is that, if they wanted to, other networks could
(legal issues aside) provide SIM-based solutions from breaking the
iPhone lock...
