Hi,

am using an old acer at home as a backup & file server for all personal stuff, like all those episodes of Naruto, Prison Break, my mp3 collection, software (mostly warez), etc.... I removed the cd-rom drive and added a 4th hard disk and implemented a (soft)RAID5. This plus samba makes for a pretty good and inexpensive home solution. At one point I might get one of those 500GB NAS devices (still waiting for the price to drop).

I don't run backups either. But i have 3 home computers so if one died on me i have all the data backed up. But none of the stuff is critical. i try and keep work on my work computer and personal stuff at home. I am working on turning one of the computers into a file server /dvr /media server whenever i find some time to sit down and do it. I also need to decide how many harddisks i need to buy and stuff.

As long as you are aware about the risks, it shouldn't
dinner-at-midnight talk :-).
