For those not on the i-network list, Jon 'BarCamp' Gosier, sent this last
night. Barcamp is going to be an event that will greatly outshine the /.
gathering we had last year. Kiggs, bring your iPhone, its going to be a lot
of fun!
over to jon:
Greetings all, I've finally nailed some things down for Barcamp. Sorry
it's taken a while but between moving across the Atlantic, horrible
service from a local provider that kept me offline for the better part
of a month and the general chaos of being a foreigner living in Africa;
it's been a wild ride. Things are finally sorted and here are the final
details for Barcamp....
Barcamp Kampala (Campala) is an ad-hoc, semi-casual gathering of
developers, professionals, and enthusiasts working in diverse areas of
technology. It's an unConference meaning it costs you nothing and a
rigid structure is the enemy. I want to stress that Barcamps are meant
to be democratic in nature, in the spirit of collaboration. But that's
okay this is our first time and the next event will be better. So for
our next attempt at this I'd like to see more local participation, an
active wiki forum or mailing list and more organizers. This time we
essentially ended with two or three guys who got involved with
organizing things. In comparison, some of the bigger Barcamp style
events will have up to ten or more organizers. In theory it should be
more like the U.N. way too many people and way too little getting done
(ha ha!). All kidding aside, the more the merrier so I really want to
encourage more participation for the next. Hopefully Campala will
continue for years to come!
PANEL STRUCTURE
What we're going to do is actually nominate presentation order on the
spot. So everyone will be in a room and if you've got something to say,
as long as no one else is speaking you'll have a chance to speak. There
will be moderators to keep the peace and order.
There will be a projector and plenty of computers around if you need
them for your presentation. If you've contacted me with an idea in
advance I'm going to randomly select your topic and you'll present. If
you've asked to present and you need to leave early or can't make the
second day, let me know via email in the next few days so I can
prioritize your panel for the first day.

there!
P.S. There will be light refreshments on the first day but don't come
hungry. On day two it will be up to you to purchase your lunch.
