But you can spread viruses with a Mac, as I did some time ago when I
distributed lecturing materials that were prepared on a Windows machine by
someone else. The virus/trojans were just copied with the directory and
although not affecting my OSX machine, it affected some other peoples
machines. I felt quite bad about this.
Since that time I use ClamXav - works perfectly well in the Sentry mode.
