Hi,The meeting was very interesting, i found. 5 people showed up. A few things we discussed:
- can you run linux on a PII (yes you can) - UTL apparently offers backup solutions over their fiber. I didnt know that.- the hotshots on this list sometimes answer beginners questions, assuming too much knowledge on the side of the person asking the question. If we could tone it down a bit. (yes we can)
- Whether you should bring your girlfriend to a LUG meeting. - some very interesting research about GIS and remote sensing. One of the people showing up got his linux CDs delivered at his office, last friday. (next time we bring ISO's and empty CDs)
Personally i met some very interesting people that i hope i will meet again. So from a networking perspective, yes it was good. Did we conquer the world, no, not yet.
Maybe we can make this year the year of the Uganda Linux Meetings :-) reinier Quoting Sanga Collins <[email protected]>:
So was the turn out really that good for the last function? For example: installing a desktop (in 20 minutes), installing a server, installing an apt-cacher, e-box, configuring apache, etc.I second that! This would allow us to have a bit of focus, and might attract more people. Obviously, obtaining a fresh copy of the latest distros should always be possible. And if crowds (of both geeks and ordinary people) get big enough, it would be possible to do both the themed and an install-fest-like event.
