I believe connectivity across borders will not be as big a problem - i remember
the SEACOM president saying they were working out something with Orange and
Zain to get into Uganda as they already had links along the route.

Busia!! i think that is good progress so far.

If you are not part of the solution, your are part of the Problem.

Hi

Sorry I meant Gilgil.  This is a town between Nakuru and Naivasha.  I believe
the Kenya side will be cabled quiet fast.

Is there any cabling progress on the UG side to connect.

Erika

Is the Gigiri you are referring to the one in Nairobi where there is some UN
complex?

Are you upto date with this information? Within Kenya, work of laying cable
from Eastern Border to Coast is already in progress.

Hi

Sorry I gave outdated news.  Cable has reached Busia. They are now still
waiting for the arrival of the sea cable for interconnection to the inland
cables.

Excellent!

Which operator(s) are at Busia? Do we know whether there's a
Malaba interconnection point as well?

I'm sure we can even start using the cables at Busia for
interconnection into Nairobi itself :-).

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi

I beleive Busia has all operators.  But Orange Telecom and Kenya Data Network
either are on the forefront or have necessary Capabilitiy to interlink East
Africa through cable.

No idea about Malaba connection, but cabling is now spreading to other towns in
Kenya.  Plan is to cover all North and northern eastern Kenya by end of year
(Remotest parts in Kenya).

Then that's great - lots of options into Nairobi.

But for direct connectivity to SEACOM, better pricing might
come from consortium members who are also at Busia.

They would have to partner with the other East African
countries to do so, as building infrastructure inside a
foreign country would require a license + others.
