there were already questions about MySQL, there have been a couple useful forks on the project. So Oracle cannot entirely control the project going forward. The big thing is since Oracle also purchased Innobase they can offer their storage engine as well as MySQL to commercial clients. I don't think that they will kill off the project, they can gain a lot by bringing in more clients at different price points.
