Hi, Sorry for crossposting.
In my weekends & evenings I have been working on 2 websites that are all about local hosting. The main website http://search.mountbatten.net a search engine that only contains websites that are hosted locally. If you have ever wanted to search the schoolwiki, or look for true local accomodation, this is the place to be. We did find quite a few local websites, but not all of them, so there is a second site http://local.mountbatten.net where you can add your website, and if it is indeed locally hosted, we will crawl it and it will be searchable within 48 hours. Creating these sites was a lot of fun, and very interesting. As expected, they run 100% opensource. In fact, the search engine is partly based on the same technology that Yahoo! is using. For people who have difficulties understanding why i am so nuts about local hosting, there is a page where you can see 2 of my speedtests of this morning. My local connection, from Datanet to UTL at that moment was 17.25 times faster than my international one. Something to think about next time you talk to your ISP, i reckon: http://local.mountbatten.net/content/pictures For those of you who are interested in moving their website to a local server, there is a list of all local hosting providers on the website: http://local.mountbatten.net/content/local-hosting-providers (and if i missed one (warid, cant find that service on your website), please tell me and I will add you) Ah, we came up with this catchy tagline: Faster than Google! rgds, Reinier Battenberg Director Mountbatten Ltd. +256 782 801 749 www.mountbatten.net Search the Ugandan Internet: http://search.mountbatten.net _______________________________________________ LUG mailing list [email protected] http://kym.net/mailman/listinfo/lug %LUG is generously hosted by INFOCOM http://www.infocom.co.ug/ The above comments and data are owned by whoever posted them (including attachments if any).
