Niles, Do not underestimate the strategy for MSFT.
Remember MSFT sold one of the earlier versions of UNIX, Xenix or something like that which they left to SCO (I think it became System III or IV) and SUN (became Solaris). The reality is that the better Linux runs under Windows, the greater the chance that it will be virtualized, and Windows services will be used. Have u looked at Windows Server administration tools? Active Directory? Their logic is still a little backward. Why would you want to run the OS with low overhead on top of the OS with the larger overhead. It should be the other way around. The decision to use the GPL is what I am surprised about.
