Hi,

And yet again the LUG Uganda held one of its succesfull gatherings last
friday. Even though our planned speakers were held up (far) away from Kampala,
we were able to have some good stuff on the projector.

First of all, Kyle brought his brandnew debian-powered Nokia N900. With a
small cable we could connect this to the projector and enjoy all its features
on the big screen. This includes multiple desktops, multitasking,
chat/skype/email, an FM transmitter, an OSM editor and many more small
features that make this linux device outshine even the iPhone. (Like shutting
off the display when you hold the phone to your ear when calling, to save
power).

The second device of the day was John Kibuka's EeePC. He got fed up with the
propriatary OS that was installed and wanted to upgrade to EasyPeacy, an
ubuntu based distro especially developed for netbooks. We had to solve some
issues with USB sticks on the spot but managed to boot from one of them
eventually. And EasyPeacy looks slick! Way more adapted to the small screen
than the previous solution. A true recommendation.

We also worked on getting an MTN modem running on Kai's ubuntu machine so
there was a lot of hands on going on.
Which is the whole point of the LUG meet: having fun and sharing knowledge.

CU all next month!
