[image: Google Code Jam Africa 2010]The first round of the Google Code Jam Africa 2010 <http://www.techzim.co.zw/2010/03/google-code-jam-africa-2010/> is over. Of the 54 countries in Africa, only 18 made it through thequalification round of Code Jam Africa 2010<http://code.google.com/codejam/contest/dashboard?c=351101> and of these, only 3 countries accounted for more than 80% of the contestants; Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria. This is despite there being no country specific entry restrictions (well, save for Internet connectivity). An indication of the countries with super brain developers? Or maybe that of those with interest in software development? Maybe of those that knew about the contests? Egypt has 123 qualifying contestants, while South Africa has 85 and Nigeria 23. Behind these are Ghana, Kenya, and Togo with 8, 6 and 4 respectively. The rest have less than that. Our own Zimbabwehas 1 qualifying contestant (someone calling themselves sentinel) at position 146 (out of 281). Countries like Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, Angola, Lybia, Algeria, Madagascar and Tanzania are nowhere on the qualifying contestants list. Each advancer from the qualification round will participate in the final round, which will begin on Monday, March 22. The final round will last 3 hours. Why in your opinion we have only 3 countries accounting for more than 80% of the qualifying contestants? Share RebelLious.NgaMita
