Here are some steps which may be helpful for you.
1. Please try to join the Windows server 2008 computer as a member server of the current Windows 2003 domain first 2. Then check if the Windows 2008 member server can resolve SRV record of the current Windows 2003 domain controller 3. If the domain controller is the first Windows Server 2008 domain controller in the current forest, please run "adprep /forestprep" on the schema operation master of the current domain to extend the schema. 4. Then please run "adprep /domainprep" on the infrastructure master of current Windows 2003 domain to prepare the domain. 5. Run "dcpromo" to promote the Windows 2008 member server to be an additional domain controller of the current Windows 2003 domain. *Reference:* How to Verify the Creation of SRV Records for a Domain Controller http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241515 Regards On Fri, Jun 25, 2010 at 2:54 PM, Kiggundu Mukasa <[email protected]> wrote: > > Has anyone ever come across this > I am trying to make a 2008 Server a DC in an Existing 2003 Domain > > > When I run dcpromo it goes well until the last step then I get the error > > The Operation Failed Because: > > A domain controller could not be contacted for the domain <DOMAIN NAME> > that contained an account name for this computer.
