Hi Folks, Someone is trying to sell me the idea of setting up a Standard Operating Environment (SOE), but he seems to be very windows comfortable. I am willing to take the SOE but not on Windows. I want to avoid annual licences, antivirus and all the ghosts and horrors of M$. The other alternative seems to be MAC, for apparently he has no Linux expertise.
I love the whole idea of a managed operating environment and the benefits accrueing thereof but I have this Linux/OSS preference. Of course he is not doing this for free, or to help me do business better or at less cost; he is looking a the difference it will make to his Bank balance mostly. My question is, does anyone here know of a way I can do a Linux based SOE? Is it something I can achieve via setting up an LDAP type of environment and save my company US $ 50,000.- ? Please give me some ideas, anyone. Is there a way we could beat this guy at his game? Thanks Chris -- Team Leader Community Open Software Solutions Network P.O. Box 25599 Kampala, Uganda.
