You'd be surprised. Having worked in a Games company I know we spent a lot of 
time getting our games to work with certain video cards, and also when a card 
manufacturer gave you better drivers (and free hardware) you tended to support 
them better. I can't see how access to the driver won't improve the quality of 
linux games, and once you improve the quality you leave more time and 
availability to improve the content.

One of the problems with the Linux platform has been getting similar quality 
and speed as you'd see say running directx 11 under Windows.

Yes, 
I also expect that and more OpenGL related works be they game-related or not to 
follow. This would do well for the game modders and converters as well.
