I've only /ever/ been arguing that copyright infringement is not
"theft." :)
Whether or not someone is deprived of royalties when an unauthorized
copy of their copyrighted material is made is another debate entirely.

Just a quick serious response. The reason you are wrong here is that
copyright theft is theft even under your definition, because the
copyright holder has been deprived of their royalties.
Think credit cards. If I copy someone's credit card and use it to buy
stuff, is this theft, or am I benefiting everyone by creating an extra
card that didn't exist before?
