*webOS games on the N900* * *
Hey guys, just a simple guide to show you how to play webOS games on the N900. For those of you who do not know what webOS games are -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebOS Anyway, this came as good news for those of us who were wondering if we would get any nice gaming experience on our N900’s… yes we can! And this is just the beginning… Ok…now down to the detail… Every game has its own requirements when being setup on the N900 but there’s lots of tutorials on the internet on how to install various games so I will just cite a few examples and then give u a few links on how to get the rest done. Again you should be very careful with this as you can completely brick your N900… (If you don't know what bricking your N900 is, i suggest you stop reading this - LOL) Ok so here’s what you need : 1) A palm pre game (they have .idk extension) 2) 7 Zip (you can get this free from their website www.7-zip.org) 3) Preenv (Preenv is a set of libraries and stubs that should make running WebOS native applications possible on the N900<http://wiki.maemo.org/Nokia_N900> ) 4) A third party file manager for N900 (I use midnight commander – many of these are available in the extras, extras-devel and extras-testing repositories) Alright, I am going to cover the installation of Need for Speed Undercover… *First we extract the game :* * * Using 7-Zip extract the .ipk file com.ez.app.nfsuc_20.0.28_all.ipk to the folder com.ez.app.nfsuc_20.0.28_all. In that folder extract the data.tar.gz (ignore the error message that shows up, it happens with all game files I have tried). After it extracts the data folder navigate to data\usr\palm\applications. In there the folder com.ea.app.nfsuc is the one we are interested in. You can rename this or you can just leave this as it is… You then copy this folder over to the N900 and save it in root directory. *Second we install preenv onto the N900 :* * * Ok then we have to install preenv onto the N900 : Make sure you have rootsh installed on your N900 and that you are connected to the internet : Open X-Terminal and type in : sudo gainroot press enter then type: apt-get install preenv and press enter. Confirm the installation by pressing Y when prompted to. *Thirdly we have to take the right steps to male sure that preenv is playable:* * * So you open up the file manager you are using and you make sure that you copy the game folder we copied to the root of the N900 to the \home\user directory. In my case I used the Midnight Commander for this. In which case I would move in the left pane to the /MyDocs folder in which I would find the games folder I copied to the N900 com.ea.app.nfsuc . After selecting this I hit the copy button and select the \home\user directory in the N900. After that we open up X-Terminal again and type in sudo gainroot and press enter. Type preenv and press enter. We then move to where we saved the game by typing this command : cd /home/user/ com.ea.app.nfsuc/ Next type this : chmod +rwx com.ea.app.nfsuc Then we type this : desktopgen appinfo.json And there you have it guys… You are now ready to play *Need for Speed Underground* on your N900. *Please note : * 1) The icon shows as a blue box until you restart so if you really want to see the Need for Speed icon it won’t show up until you restart. 2) Pick up some *.ipk’s here<http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f487/palm-pre-pixi-webos-apps-games-1019334/>(I ain’t said nothing!!!) 3) The guys from 360Nextlevel have a nice video tutorial on this here<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGQwWZ_VriA> . 4) Need for Speed needs this installed to play : go to x-terminal type sudo gainroot (Enter) apt-get install libGLES* è A list of compatible webOS games can be found here<http://wiki.maemo.org/Preenv/Game_Compatibility> .
