Hello all the Linux 311t3, Am just wondering what FOSS dates are regarded important (at least officially) by LUG.
For example last year I marked the Firefox Bday with just two friends in some tech-room somewhere - just simple beer and hacking Fx addons anyway, but I wish I could be a part of a bigger **atmosphere** when such moments fall. Another reason am eager to know is because of controversies surrounding some of the most fundamental events in our global community; is the Linux Birthday - is it July 3rd, 1991 the date of the first Linux announcement by Torvalds, August 25th, 1991, when he first let the cat out of the bag about his project or should we follow Uni[cs|x]? See why we need one, at least let's brainstorm some dates; anniversary of Vi[ m] - whose benefit to 256 hax0rs includes endowing **god-like-powers** in cyberspace and encouraging its users to donate to children in Uganda (vim<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vim_%28text_editor%29>), anniversary of C++ on 14th Oct (c++<http://www.wired.com/thisdayintech/2010/10/1014cplusplus-released/all/1>), the IP/IPX stack, RFC 1, ...etc we need a reason celebrate every once in a while (any culture marks celebrates its history and progress by reminiscing its important days, why not the hacker culture?) Any suggestions are welcome. Nemesis Fixx {lone hobbyist} -- I once trod the path of chains, But then got pricked by a thorn in the sand It set me free.
