Yes i understand your concerns with rooting the device, especially without an internet connection. Unfortunately rooting is the only way to utilize some of the more interesting and useful features of an android device.
what device are you using? I have found that if you setup the android devel studio on your computer, you can gain console access to your device an root it that way. (connected via usb) I find this the best way to root when a device doesnt have a '1-click apk' that auto roots for you.
