Ivan,
we had the same issue at my workplace with an hp pavillion with similar 
specs, except for the additional ATI radeon 4500 series card. It got to a stage 
of running ubuntu 10.04 for 3days and windows 7 for 24 hours for every 
re-install cycle. We pegged ours down to a hard disk problem, so I'd like to 
know if your fixes work.
