Well one of the biggest hurdles is your not only upgrading from 1.2 to 2.0 but 
the underlying OS has to upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04. Hence the dependency issue.

Thank you Simon
i had issues with the gradual upgrade the server is running on an open vz box 
and the upgrade always failed with dependency issues.

but let me join the mailing lists and try to find a solution.
