The unfortunate news was announced<http://macnn.com/rd/228908==https://plus.google.com/u/0/101960720994009339267/posts/ENuEDDYfvKP?hl=en>by friend and colleague Rob Pike, who notes that Ritchie died at his home after a "long illness." The 70-year-old Harvard graduate and veteran of Lucent Technologies and Bell Labs was credited with authoring the C programming language."
