Jake, It is supposed to but I think I got it very confused.
I fixed it in the end using a firefox extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flash-aid/ It scans your machine tells you what you have installed and allows you to remove alternate plugins. Also allows you to install the latest beta. All working well in both Chrome and Firefox.
