Billy, Thank you. Thank you very much for all the work you have done and continue to do. Thank you for acting quickly to take a stand on this issue on our behalf.
I think the objection here is to committing the community to a political stand without their consent. It is like putting up an opinion on the gay issue. While this anti-SOPA unifies us all if we believe in FOSS, most any other issue would polarise us!! Take for example the Facebook issue where Ugandans feel ENTITLED to join any group they wish on Facebook! Suppose you took a stand on that before we gave our two cents? People here should have said thank first and then expressed a mild concern. Unfortunately it came out as a lynching which in this case was uncalled for. Please feel free to change the content but however allow us some say when it comes to unified stands. James. Did you pay me last month to work on the website? Where does the line lie? To be honest though I am glad people to care enough that the website represents them that they want a say, how ever we do need to qualify this. Do we need to take a vote on all 800 members every time we want to change the content on the website? We also have RSS feeds from other website what if they post something regarding SOPA should we also inform you Are you proposing we create an AUP? If one member says no would that have stopped us from blacking out the site? What would members feel would be examples of changes to the website they would feel uncomfortable with or would require us to come and ask the membership first? As the site can contain content from us all and potentially contain offensive material how should this be handled? Kind of interesting considering the todays topic.
