I guess it must have an impact otherwise companies would not do it. How
ever I do not know of any studies which analyse usage based on
localisation. The people who might have that data would be Google. We
could reach out to our local office and ask?
I am in Victor's camp, if someone/anyone feels that this is of benefit
to them or their community and is will to put in the work to translate
Firefox<inserthere> into <Insertlanguage> can only be a good thing.
Firstly it demonstrates what Open Source is all about. Secondly allows
said person(s) to build useful skills. Third might inspire someone else
to do the same for their language/localization. I know as an mainly
English speaker than we are losing a lot of languages to English, which
I think is a shame, and damaging our diversity as a race. Remember
choice is a good thing, it is what drives FOSS as a community. Must we
always reduce things to 'useful', 'monetary' bottom line?
Just my 2 /=

Interesting discussion!
I work as the Mozilla Uganda community reporter and so far the
feedback with all it's controversy is very invaluable to the
community. So thanks and please continue with the conversation.
They're so other localization projects going on the latest being a
Luganda phone
<http://www.itnewsafrica.com/2013/02/orange-uganda-launches-luganda-language-system>by
Orange uganda, a Linux OS in Luganda
<http://www.techpost.ug/95/an-entire-operating-system-in-a-local-language/>,
Firefox Luganda and even Google Uganda homepage in three local
languages!! However, the question still lingers, "does language
localization of software and gadgets have any significant impact on
the usage of Technology by users?". Keep the conversation going.
