Obstaja dodatek DOS datotecnemu sistemu, ki se imenuje
UMSDOS (vkljuci se ga v Linux kernelu pod MSDOS datotecnim
sistemom). Prilagam pozetek iz pomoci pri nastavitvi jedra:

 Say Y here if you want to run Linux from within an existing DOS

    partition of your hard drive. The advantage of this is that you can

    get away without repartitioning your hard drive (which often implies

    backing everything up and restoring afterwards) and hence you're

    able to quickly try out Linux or show it to your friends; the

    disadvantage is that Linux becomes susceptible to DOS viruses and

    that UMSDOS is somewhat slower than ext2fs. Another use of UMSDOS

    is to write files with long unix filenames to MSDOS floppies; it

    also allows Unix-style softlinks and owner/permissions of files on

    MSDOS floppies. You will need a program called umssync in order to

    make use of umsdos; read Documentation/filesystems/umsdos.txt.

    This option enlarges your kernel by about 25 kB and it only works if

    you said Y to both "fat fs support" and "msdos fs support" above. If

    you want to compile this as a module ( = code which can be inserted

    in and removed from the running kernel whenever you want), say M

    here and read Documentation/modules.txt. The module will be called

    umsdos.o. Note that the filesystem of your root partition (the one

    containing the directory /) cannot be a module, so saying M could be

    dangerous. If unsure, say N.

Toliko o tem, jaz to odsvetujem ker krozijo govorice, da je UMSDOS
na smrt pocasen.

Tudi jaz imam boot particijo nad 1024 cilindrom:
Moj lilo.conf zgleda takole (pozornost naj zbudi
vrstica lba32):

boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
default=linux
lba32

image=/boot/bzImage
        label=linux
        read-only
        root=/dev/hda4

image=/boot/bzImage-2.2.15
        label=old
        read-only
        root=/dev/hda4

image=/boot/bzImage-2.2.14-rtl2.2
        label=rtlinux
        read-only
        root=/dev/hda4

other=/dev/hda1
        label=dos
-------------------------------
LILO version 21.4-2

Priporocam, da se opravi namestitev (custom seveda)
v eno samo particijo in se ko se pojavi korak sredi namestitve
se naj naredi rescue disketa.
Lilo se bo pritozil nad 1024 cilindrom vendar zanemaris opozorila
in nadaljujes. Bootas z disketo in popravis v /etc/lilo.conf, da
vsebuje vrstico "lba32".
Nato pozenes lilo, ce LILO se se vedno pritozi mi pisi in bom
poslal novi LILO.
