tar xzvf pebrot.tar.gz , empieza a descomprimir y a lo ultimo me dice

sjsv1 $ ./setup.py

parent_bg/*' ) ) ] ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax
em el README dice que necesito el Pythom 2.2 o superior, baje el 2.4
cuando lo descomprimo de la misma manera
sjsv1 $ tar zxvf python-2.4.tgz
empieza adescomprimir a tambien a lo ultimo me dice "tar: Skipping to next file header...
