Something is wrong with your /dev/sda3. Lustre is not finding a proper block device there, so it assumes you are using a loopback device, but since you are not using a loopback, it fails (size is only used with loopback) Verfiy that sda exists, and is partitioned correctly. (sda3 exists) As a test, make an ext2 FS on sda3 with mkfs.
