Amanda (http://amanda.zmanda.com) is an open source network backup and recovery software.
I have added a white paper to the lustre wiki (http://wiki.lustre.org/index.php?title=Main_Page#Community_Development_Projects). Look for "Backup: Amanda and Lustre". This paper discusses how to use Amanda to backup Lustre file systems.
