Hi,
last friday a friend lutenist asked me to try fixing a Van der Waals
theorbo in which two ribs were disconnected A along some 7-8 cm...this
happened on his way to the airport for a concert tour!
having no time to ask some advise, I put some masking tape along the
two ribs, near the slit, then I managed to put some thin hot glue in
the slit and finally I stretched some sellotape across, anchored to the
masking tape (to prevent the sellotape to attach the varnish).
last night he sent me a message saying that the glue appears to have
sealed the disconnection but the masking tape left some trace on the
   rib finish.
I am not sure what finishing had been used.
any suggestion on what can be safely used to clean the ribs?
   thank you in advance
   Luciano Bernardi
