As 1000 years ago the Mongols used silk shirts as a way of reducing 
injury from arrows, perhaps silk lined lutes would be more 
historically appropriate. However, for maximum security against 
matchlocks and blunderbusses lutenists should consider the value of 
breastplates and greaves.
