Dear Stewart and All:
 Regarding Stewart's comments on unified sound and obtrusive notes that
offend the ear, I have always removed overspun octave strings, sometimes
supplied with the lowest strings on 10-course lutes or baroque lutes, and
replaced them with gut. The thin overwound strings had too much sustain
were too assertive, competing with the fundamental rather than
complementing it.
