As a certifiable curmudegeon, I entirely missed the whole beard chatter without 
reading a single message.  Not that I count as a lutenist, but I am bearded, 
sometimes fully but usually narrowly and centrally situated.  I also often 
smell more conspicuously of fish than real lutenists.
