Saturday, March 12 8:00PM The New York Early Music Series Sacri e Divoti Affetti Jessica Gould, soprano, with Jennifer Lane, mezzo-soprano Grant Herreid, lute John Mark Rozendaal, cello Borys Medicky, harpsichord Works to include selection from Strozzi's "I Sacri Musicali Affetti" (Opus 5, 1655, Venice) and the recently discovered "Canto Divoti Affetti" by Giovanni Alberto Ristori (1692-1753). Selections from I Sacri Musicali Affetti, Barbara Strozzi's only known volume of sacred music (Opus 8, 1655). Dedicated to a female patron, Anne Archduchess of Austria, the majority of the selections, all solo cantatas, are dedications to female saints. Also on the program is Giovanni Alberto Ristori's recently discovered holy week duet, Canto Divoti Affetti. Having miraculously survived the bombing of Dresden, the piece makes its New York premiere performance in this concert.
