In "A Tale of Two Cities" there is a French marquis
with a cold and selfish heart. He is consequently a
cruel man.

This man has very good manners. In reading the book,
it is a pleasure to "listen to him talk", because
his manners are so fine. He can say "my friend"
to someone he hates, without sounding smarmy.

So, zee question eees, which players of fretted
instrumentals, historical or (preferably) living,
might serve as models of good manners during
performance?

By good manners, I don't mean nice clothes, humility,
or open-heartedness, however preferable these might
be.

I mean the type of manners which our marquis had:
a sophisticated, semi-formalized, perhaps difficult
good-breeding which would serve well at a diplomatic
party.
