Using the vihuela books of the mid-sixteenth century as its musical source, and Saint Teresa of Avila & Saint John of the Cross as its mystical inspiration, Avila presents the music of Spain's Golden Age. Springing forth from the confluence of these two great Catholic mystics, Avila features sacred and secular music from both printed and manuscript sources, bilingual meditations from the mystical writings of Teresa of Avila & John of the Cross, and newly composed works inspired by their mystical visions.
