If you buy chisels marked Marples today they are made by Irwin Tools
   who moved production to China.  Marples chisels haven't been made in
   Sheffield for some time. Here's a timeline of the companies that have
   made chisels under the Marples name since the firm of William Marples &
   Sons Ltd. disappeared in 1963.
   1963 Record Tool Company aka C & J Hampton Ltd acquired an equal 50%
   interest with William Ridgeway Ltd. in William Marples and Sons
   Limited.
   1972 Record merged with William Ridgeway Ltd. to form Record Ridgeway
   Tools Ltd which was composed of 14 UK Companies and 5 overseas
   companies.
   1981 Record Ridgeway Tools Ltd was purchased by a Swedish company, AB
   Bahco.
   1985 Record Ridgeway is renamed Record Holdings.
   1988 Record Holdings is renamed Record Marples Woodworking Tools Ltd.
   1991 Record Marples Woodworking Tools becomes Record Tools
   1993 Record Tools becomes Record Holdings Plc
   1998 Record Holdings Plc becomes part of the American Tool Company in
   1998 and reverts to the name Record Tools Ltd.
   2002 Newell Rubbermaid acquires American Tool Companies.
   2003 American Tool Companies is renamed Irwin Industrial Tools.
