The unit sounds appealing to me, too. Although I also perform on modern guitars, on early instruments I play 98% of the time in 1/6 comma MT at A415. So the unit's pitch and MT settings sound ideal.
I have been concerned whether the clamp would open wide enough for easy attachment to a lute pegbox or theorbo extension (no problem on baroque guitar or vihuela I presume). I have yet to get a response from the dealer I emailed. I did find the review below from someone who tried the unit with lutes. "I bought this unit for tuning Renaissance and Baroque lutes, I tried on all the settings and have returned it after trying everything. Lutes being friction fit pegs are not as accurate as tuning gears and the machine's bars kept moving even after my Korg tuner and my ear said the instrument was in tune. When you play lute you develop a very good ear for tuning. This is an excellent quality unit with many functions but it unfortunately did not meet my requirements." It doesn't say whether the reviewer had tried both equal and MT. Do other people have trouble with non-stopping bars on a strobe tuner, or does one become accustomed to a small amount of imperfection? (Given the reported accuracy of Peterson tuners this could be extremely small.) How do strobe tuners deal with sharps and flats (such as D# and Eb) which are different in MT? Is there a distinction? Does the tuner only give you one choice? -- Rocky -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
