Well, I'm not in the UK, but... Unfortunately, one of the greatest proponents of classical mandolin, UK denizen Alison Stephens, is recently deceased. She was a student of the late Hugo D'Alton, was loved, and is missed. She taught at Trinity College: http://www.trinitylaban.ac.uk/. I don't know if she was replaced on the faculty or if any of her students are active in the north.
You may want to drop a line to Ian at mandolinscotl...@yahoo.co.uk. He should know who is doing what well related to mandolinning in the northern UK. Wanted for an engagement in North Yorkshire later this year. Modest fee/expenses available. Would be an advantage to be able to play violin with a small chamber group for other pieces in the show.
