Thanks for the responses guys. I had a quick look at the microchip web site and I got the impression that they have implemented their own scripting language to describe MIBS instead of using ASN1. This means that we would convert standard ASN1 based mibs into this script such that their script compiler can produce the source code for their agent.
It also only seems to support SNMP v1 and not v2c or v3. But hey, it's free! We will probably end up using it with yours truly supporting it :) John > -----Original Message----- > From: Christiaan Simons [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: 07 March 2006 09:08 > To: Mailing list for lwIP users > Subject: Re: [lwip-users] SNMP over lwip > > Paulo wrote: > > > A time ago I see a post from John Horton asking about a SNMP stack. > > For those that are interest on these topic, Microchip have an SNMP > > implementation on their stack. > > The advantage of the Microchip stack is the tiny footprint, much like the > uIP stack. > However I had the impression this SNMP agent has some flaws. > The BER/ASN1 codec has some serious limitations, not supporting some > common > encodings. > > This may limit the compatibility with management or proxy software. > (The NET-SNMP tools springs to mind) > > Bye, > > Christiaan Simons > > Hardware Designer > Axon Digital Design > > http://www.axon.tv > > This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended > solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. > If you have received this email in error please notify the system manager. > This message contains confidential information and is intended only for > the > individual named.
