For items like this, where you're pretty sure it is a bug (rather than just a question about how things work), could you file a bug on savannah as well as mentioning it here, preferably with a suggested fix in the form of a patch. Stuff that is just posted to the mailing list might get overlooked or forgotten by the code maintainers.
