That would be fine. Or just having your mercurial patch queue available relative to an lwIP release would also be fine. I'm not fussy about what form things are distributed in, or even if they are in the contrib ports tree or not (there are a lot of ports that aren't, and I suspect those are the ones that are maintained) but code that isn't kept up to date is not much use.
