Sorry, but the lack of my answers is because I'm not sure what to do.
We're using the httpd for exactly what you described and don't have any
problems. Your problems might come from the way you use the server (e.g.
violating lwIP's threading requirements) or from differences in
integrating your "file system" or application with the httpd.

I'm afraid I can't help you much here.

lwIP is a piece of code written by many volunteers, mostly in their free
time. It's not exactly a young project and yes, you can feel the age of
the code.

Instead of complaining, why don't you help making it better?
