Looks like all you need is to arrange to collect the password and call 
cryptsetup before you can mount an encrypted partition.

Remember that proper protocol with a password is you overwrite the memory that 
is containing it right afterward so it can't be stolen via /dev/mem.

Concerning LVM/RAID, you should be able to do whatever testing of device mapper 
devices you need by creating small file systems in plain files and mounting 
them loopback.  Either that or wouldn't USB keys work if you wanted to create a 
small RAID array.  We used to do this sort of testing using floppy disks.
