I would like to hear what exactly those "problems with LXDE" are? At
least we've pushed the most problematic part of it - PCManFM - into the
wheezy-backports (currently 1.1.2 is there, 1.2.2 will be pushed when it
reach jessie), any other can be pushed into wheezy-backports as well, you
just have to ask if it's required.
