Solved:
1.) $ cd ~/.cache
$ mv menus menus_OLD
$ mkdir menus
$ cp -p menus_OLD/xxx menus
# where xxx stands for a single filename
restart the desktop
if the missing menu item still isn't there, then try the other files in
menus_OLD
2.) if the above didn't work then
# aptitude reinstall lxmenu-data
