A quick google for "betaftpd lynx" shows the home page of the project
acknowledges problems working with lynx and IE, and efforts at further
RFC959 compliance.
It's expecting a passive-ftp connection (but using -passive-ftp doesn't
improve it). Use the -trace option to see what's going on. (It's also
possible that there's something amiss with lynx's passive-ftp since that's
used relatively infrequently).
