I don't have a network connection from my home machine; nor am I running w98.
When I'm done with the program I'm working on now, I'll have a little time
to build up a current development version to view local files from NT or W95.
(We can reduce the conditions - but as stated, I am not in a position to
reproduce the conditions you stated caused problems).
