OK, it worked but I had to set export
LYNX_TEMP_SPACE=$HOME/tmp and of course create this
directory. But it's really strange since I have the same
settings used in 2.8.3.dev23. #define TEMP_SPACE "~" is set in
userdefs.h, and is the same used with earlier versions. Hope it
helps.
