Of course you are correct here. Sorry for not rereading that before it

As I said originally, when viewing a rendered version of a DOS text
file via ftp, extra blank lines are inserted. I just put up a a test
file to demonstrate on my server. This is one file, which you can
access either by ftp or by http. When I view it locally, via file://,
I get the same rendering as by http. The two URLs are:
"ftp://ftp.rahul.net/pub/dkaufman/www/testfile"
"http://www.rahul.net/dkaufman/testfile"
With the patch, I no longer see the extra blank lines.
